Despite the fact that recalled pet products and treats have been on the rise for several months failure to properly address and correct the safety of pet ingestibles is not only alarming but also disappointing.

Thousands of dogs have been sickened with kidney failure and Fanconi Syndrome and 360 dogs have died after eating tainted chicken jerky treats. The FDA has yet to find a cause or take any official action.
In addition, pet peanut butter referred to as DogsButterand American Bully Sticks have recently been recalled due to Salmonella bacterial contamination.
This week, Nature’s Recipe has recalled Select Oven Baked Dog Biscuits with Real Chicken due once again to Salmonella contamination.
Select Oven Biscuits are made in Topeka, Kansas and marketed across the country at various retail outlets.

The recalled dog biscuits were sold in a re-sealable 19 ounce pouch marked with the lot code 2199TP and 2200TP and have a UPC code of 30521 and 51549.
According to the manufacturer no human or pet illnesses have been reported but they recommend immediately discarding the product and monitoring everyone in the home, humans and pets, for signs of Salmonella.
Concerned pet owners can contact the company 24/7 by calling 1-800-237-3856.
Signs of Salmonella, which is transmissible between pets and people, include vomiting and diarrhea with or without blood, lethargy, appetite loss and fevers. Additional signs in humans may include arthritis, Endocarditis and urinary track issues.
If you suspect contamination has affected any family members contact your veterinarian or health care provider promptly. Practice good hygiene and be sure to wash your hands well.
