After thousands of dogs have been sickened and hundreds have died due to eating Purina’s and Del Monte’s chicken jerky treats manufactured in China, one company has actually issued a voluntary recall of their American made jerky treats.
Kasel Associated Industries of Denver, Colorado manufactures Natures Deli Chicken Jerky Dog Treats. Kasel just announced a voluntary recall of their jerky treats due to Salmonella Bacterial contamination, detected through specific testing by the FDA.
The recalled jerky treats were sold in a clear plastic bag weighing 2.5 pounds, marked with the Kasel logo and UPC barcode 647263800208. These treats were sold in Sam’s Club at 57 different locations affecting 12 states across the country.
Salmonella bacterial infections are Zoonotic which means they are easily transmitted from pets to people just by handling or touching the product.
Signs of Salmonella include vomiting and diarrhea with or without blood, lethargy, lack of appetite and fevers. In humans, additional more severe signs may include arthritis and muscle pain, heart involvement referred to as Endocarditis, eye infections and urinary track symptoms.
Pet owners who have purchased the product are encouraged to practice good hygiene by for example washing your hands well, carefully discard the tainted treats and contact the company for refunds at 800-218-4417.
Pet owners who suspect their dog may have consumed the tainted treats should contact their veterinarian and people who fear infection should call their primary health care physician.
