Protein crunch dog bars, sold under the brand Charlee Bear are being recalled due toSalmonella bacterial contamination.
These protein dog bars were distributed across the United States in September and October.
Lot numbers affected by this recall include 19912, 20012 and 20212
In addition, 5.5 ounce packages of Charlee Bear Protein Crunch Dog Bars made with chicken and carrots recipe with the UPC
Code 8710890000 and lot number 19812 were also recalled for the same reason.
Pet owners who bought these treats may return them for a refund or contact the company directly at 1-800-396-8893.
To date, according to the company, no sickened dogs have been reported.
Salmonella bacteria are contagious and are easily transmitted between people and pets just by touch.
Salmonella is considered to be a zoonotic disease and signs can be similar in people and pets.
Signs of Salmonella include vomiting and diarrhea, with or without blood, lethargy, fever and appetite loss.
More severe signs in people may include eye issues, heart involvement referred to as Endocarditis, arthritis and urinary bladder problems.
Dogs that may have eaten the tainted treats should be taken to their veterinarian.
Humans who suspect infection need to contact their primary care physician.
